How to install — step by step

This extension works on a computer Install it on a computer with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge — it cannot be installed on a phone. Send this page to yourself and open it on your computer.

Download the file

Press the orange Download the extension button at the top of this page. A file named macchina-autopro-extension-1.15.0.zip lands in your Downloads folder.

Unzip it, then move the folder to Documents

Windows: right-click the file ← Extract All… ← Extract. Mac: double-click the file.

⚠️ Move the extracted folder to Documents and never delete it — Chrome runs the extension from this folder.

Open the extensions page

Copy this address, paste it in Chrome's address bar and press Enter (it cannot be opened by clicking a link):

Turn on “Developer mode”

A small switch in the top corner of the page, named Developer mode. Turn it on (blue).

Press “Load unpacked” and choose the right folder

Three buttons appear. Press Load unpacked, open the folder you put in Documents, then open the inner folder macchina-autopro and press Select Folder.

The right folder is the one that contains manifest.json. If you see “Manifest file is missing”, you chose the outer folder — go one level deeper.

Pin Macchina next to the address bar

Press the puzzle icon 🧩 next to the address bar, then the pin 📌 next to Macchina. Its icon stays in view.

Open any car on an auction site

On Copart, IAAI, Manheim, ADESA, OPENLANE or ACV, open a car page: the Macchina panel appears on the page with the full cost, container shipping and the car's history.

If something goes wrong

I don't see the “Load unpacked” button

Developer mode is off — turn on the switch in step 4 and the button appears.

“Manifest file is missing or unreadable”

You chose the outer folder. Choose the inner macchina-autopro folder (the one with manifest.json).

The panel doesn't appear on the car page

Refresh the page (F5). The panel appears on a single car page, not on a search list. Check that Macchina is switched on in chrome://extensions.

Chrome asks to “Disable developer mode extensions”

Press the X or “Cancel” — do not disable it. Chrome shows this for every extension installed this way.

How do I update to a new version?

Download the new file, unzip it and replace the old folder in Documents with the new one, then press the ↻ button on the Macchina card in chrome://extensions.

What the extension sends to Macchina

The lot number or VIN of the car you open, the price you type, and the destination you pick — to calculate the cost.
To send you offers that match your interests, Macchina records the cars you open with an anonymous install ID; if you are signed in to macchinaa.net, they are linked to your account.
You can switch this off at any time from the extension window: “Share my interests with Macchina”.
The extension never reads your auction account or passwords. Only Auto Pro dealers who press “Link” send their auction session, encrypted.
